Eagles Shutout Bad Axe for Second Year in a Row
September 03, 2026 — Week 02 — Deckerville, Michigan
Lightning in the area may have delayed the start, but the Eagles wasted no time making up for lost time, scoring on each of their first eight possessions against Bad Axe, shutting out the Hatchets, 56-0. Ashton Wedge stole the show for the second week in a row, scoring Deckerville’s first five touchdowns of the day, finishing with 215 yards in just one half of football. If five touchdowns weren’t enough, Wedge picked off a pass on defense, returning it 32 yards for a score with just 25 seconds left in the second quarter.
Bad Axe struggled to move the ball, finishing with 41 yards of total offense on 33 plays. The Hatchets were only able to secure three first downs on the day, with two coming on their last drive. Gavin Pawlowski carried the ball five times for 10 yards and brought in three catches totaling 42 yards. Multiple bad snaps caused for havoc in the backfield with quarterback Jackson Wolschlager having to scramble to secure the ball and keep the offense on the field. Deckerville’s defense did not make it any easier, finishing with 3 tackles for a loss, one interception, one pass breakup and a defensive touchdown.
With Wedge sitting for the second half on offense, Landon Noble became the bell cow back for Deckerville. He finished with 10 carries for 147 yards and two scores, including the final score of the day, when Noble broke free for an 87-yard touchdown run on the very first play of the drive to push the score to 56-0. On the ensuing kickoff, Wedge, also the kicker, sent a squib kick off the pads of a Hatchet lineman, bouncing the ball back to Wedge, who recovered the loose ball. The Eagles ran the clock out, kneeling to finish the game.

Ashton Wedge was named the Ameriprise Financial Player of the Game, running the ball 26 times for 215 yards and five touchdowns. He also added a defensive touchdown on an interception, along with three total tackles, including a tackle for a loss and a fumble recovery.
Bad Axe’s senior tight end and defensive end, along with a key target downfield, went down with an injury early in the game and did not return. Deckerville was still without Brandon Salowitz, anticipated to be the main running back for the Eagles. With Wedge already accumulating 549 yards for 10 touchdowns on just 67 carries in two weeks of football, Deckerville will be a force to contain upon Salowitz’s return.
After two games at home, Deckerville hits the road to Byron, the newest member of the Big Thumb Conference and fellow Blue Division foe. Bad Axe looks to find their first victory of the season as they travel to Marlette, also winless through two weeks.
