Patriots Use Strong Second Half, Pull Away for 29-Point Victory
January 23, 2026 — Sebewaing, MI — Big-Thumb - White
The Unionville-Sebewaing Patriots bounced back from a rough Wednesday night with their best offensive showing of the season, defeating the Bad Axe Hatchets, 63-34 on Friday, January 23, 2026. Senior Patriot Davis Peters had a career night, leading all scorers with 23 points.
It was a back-and-forth first quarter with four lead changes in the first four minutes of the game, but USA utilized a nine-point run in two minutes to lead 15-7 with a minute left in the first, but would lead by just three points at the end of the first, 17-14 after Bad Axe connected on a Bryson Henline three-pointer and Graeme Seltz basket. The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair with neither team scoring consecutive buckets until the final two minutes when USA extended their lead back out to seven points at halftime, 28-21.
The second half began with a Patriot 8-0 run, thanks in part to back-to-back Peters three-pointers. Bad Axe was able to muster just five points to USA’s 16. To close out the game, the fourth quarter was more of the same. The Hatchets committed another six turnovers for a total of 18 on the night.
In addition to Peters’ 23 points, fellow senior Patriot Justin Jacobs pitched in 18 points. Bad Axe’s Seltz was the lone Hatchet in double digits at 10 points; Blake Darnell finished with eight points.
USA now improves to 6-7 on the season, having not lost back-to-back games since the first week of December. Bad Axe’s losing streak now sits at seven straight games, dating back more than a month. The last and only Hatchet victory of the season was against Memphis back on December 17, 2025.
Bad Axe continues on its four-game road trip with games at Caro, Cass City and Brown City before returning home on February 04 against Peck. USA travels to Reese on Wednesday, January 28 before a three-game homestand against Millington, Kingston and Cass City through the first week of February.
