Tight First Quarter Gives Way to Laker Artillery Attack Over the Hatchets
January 16, 2026 — Big Thumb Conference - White Division — Pigeon, Michigan
Lakers utilized a 9-0 run to end the first half and pull away from Bad Axe, defeating the Hatchets, 50-30 on Friday January 16, 2026. The Green Machine is off to its hottest start in at least 20 years with a 9-2 record.
Bad Axe led at the end of the first quarter, 12-10 with balanced scoring inside, but the Hatchets wouldn’t score again in side of 19’9”, relying on three-point shooting for the remainder of the game. Lakers’ Caden Carriveau scored half of his 16 points in the second quarter to give the green & white point lead at halftime, 21-18.
The second half saw the Lakers turn up the heat on defense, forcing six Bad Axe turnovers in the third quarter and outscoring the Hatchets 13-6. Lakers continued to pull away with a 15-0 run over six minutes. Only a Bad Axe three-pointer would that streak before Lakers would add another 10-straight points.
The Green Machine was led by their tall tandem of Lucas Wehner's 17 points and Carriveau's 16. Bad Axe was paced by Blake Darnell’s nine points, with Mason Hurley finishing with six points. The Hatchets made just six shots in the final three quarters, all beyond the arc. They attempted just three shots inside for the entire second half, missing all of them.
Lakers now improve to 4-0 in divisional play, holding a one-game lead over Cass City in the Big Thumb-White division. Bad Axe has lost five games in a row, searching for its first win in over a month.
