Lakers 49, Cass City 6

Lakers Trounce Rivals in Homecoming Victory

October 09, 2026 — Week 06 — Pigeon, Michigan

It was the best-case scenario for the Elkton Pigeon Bay Port Lakers, dominating in every aspect of the game and defeating the Cass City Red Hawks, 49-6, in front of a Homecoming crowd on Friday, October 09, 2026. The Lakers scored on every single drive of the night and even picked up a defensive touchdown late in the game on an interception.

The game did not start out that way, though for the Green Machine. On the very first drive of the night, the Laker offense stalled at the Red Hawk 28-yard-line when the Cass City defense forced a turnover on downs, four minutes into the game. But from that point forward, everything seemed to click — scoring on the ground, through the air and even on defense, while forcing three turnovers, all of which were turned into eventual points. Cass City could not take advantage of the early momentum, being forced to punt five plays later, which opened the floodgates of the Laker attack. Quarterback Ben LeVasseur was the first to score for the Lakers, running into the end zone on a four-yard keeper. The extra point was blocked to put the green and white ahead, 6-0 with 2:58 remaining in the first quarter.

Cass City’s next drive ended the same way after seven plays, pinning Lakers deep at their own 19-yard line. That’s where Lakers would put together an 11-play drive covering 81 yards in six and a half minutes, capped off by a Lucas Wehner 30-yard catch from LeVasseur for the score. It was Wehner’s first touchdown since the first week of the season. The two-point conversion was run in by Matt Murdoch, pushing their lead to 14-0 with just under four minutes left in the half. The Red Hawks were stymied by the Laker defense, unable to gain a first down and punting after just three plays. The Green Machine wasted no time, striking downfield on the first play, a 47-yard throw to Ayden Stormzand from LeVasseur. Wehner’s second extra point of the night pushed the halftime lead to 21 points. Cass City was able to muster only 54 yards in the first half on 18 plays.

After Ana Vega was crowned Laker Homecoming Queen, the green and white picked right back up, forcing a Cass City fumble on the second play of the third quarter. Lakers scored two plays later when Stormzand ran it in from 13 yards out. Another Wehner point-after extended Lakers’ lead to 28-0, less than two minutes into the second half. Disaster struck for the Red Hawks on the subsequent drive when they fumbled the ball on the very first play of the drive. Adding insult to literal injury, leading Cass City rusher Braxton Kolacz went down, reinjuring a previous ankle injury. Taking over at the 18-yard line, Lakers scored on the next play, a 28-yard throw from LeVasseur to Homecoming King Kade Wisenbaugh. Wehner’s third successful extra point made it a running clock situation, 35-0 less than three minutes into the second half.

The Red Hawks moved the ball just 13 yards on their next drive, resulting in another punt. Lakers punched in their sixth touchdown of the night when Mason Warneck rumbled in from the three-yard line; Wehner’s PAT extended the Laker domination to 42-0 with 11:05 left in regulation. There was more scoring left for the Green Machine, when Josiah McGrath-Henderson intercepted Preston Dorland’s pass and ran it into the end zone for the Lakers, pushing the steamrolling to 49-0. With multiple second-string players on defense, Cass City’s offense was able to muster a 75-yard drive and only score of the night when Tyler Reinke ran in the ball from one yard out.

Laker’s 49-6 victory was the largest lopsided victory over Cass City in 30 years, when Bill McLellan’s Lakers defeated Tom Oesch’s Red Hawks in 1996, 48-0. Head coach Dave LeVasseur now improves to 5-2 over the school’s largest rival.

Ben LeVasseur completed all but one of his 11 passes on the night, throwing for 212 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for eight yards on five carries for one score. As a result of his efforts, he was named the Ameriprise Financial Player of the Game.
