Laker Offense Explodes for 350+ yards, Clinches at Least a Share of BTC-White

October 03, 2025 — Week 06 — Pigeon, Michigan

In a marathon game that finished just shy of 10:00pm, the Lakers clinched at least a share of the Big Thumb Conference’s White Division with a 44-20 Homecoming victory over the Sandusky Wolves on Friday, October 03, 2025. A win next week against Millington will give Lakers the outright title, their first since 2022.

Lakers’ first drive resulted in a three-and-out punt, but scored on their first defensive play when Luke Good intercepted Jack Betts’ pass in the end zone for a pick-six touchdown. A Lucas Wehner extra point made it 7-0 just two minutes into the game. There would be no more scoring until halfway through the second quarter after two points and two turnovers-on-downs, one from each team, when Sandusky pulled within one point after a Betts quarterback sneak across the goal line. Lakers responded on the very next drive to extend their lead to eight points, 14-6 on a 21-yard pass from Ben LeVasseur to Grant Buchholz and another Wehner extra point. The green-and-white would add another score before halftime, a 26-yard reception from LeVasseur to Wehner to lead 20-6 after two quarters of play.

Sandusky’s second half began with momentum marching 64 yards before their drive stalled at the Laker 16-yard line, unable to convert on fourth down. After the play and out of frustration, Betts threw the football at the back of a Laker defender, hitting him in the back of the helmet and was resultingly ejected from the game. Since the ejection occurred in the second half, Betts will have to miss the first half of next week’s game against Caro, as well.

The Green Machine tacked on two more scores through the air with LeVasseur connecting with Caden Carriveau for two touchdowns, a 71 and 26-yard catch, pushing the Laker lead to 33-6 with 11:54 remaining in the game. Lakers added three more points with 7:23 left when Lucas Wehner blasted a 38-yard field goal through the uprights, extending their lead to 36-6 with six minutes to go. As the minutes ticked by, Sandusky found the end zone for the second time with less than two minutes to play when backup quarterback Jamal Mlynarski ran in the ball from 11 yards out and extra point from Robert Ladiges, cutting into Lakers’ lead, 36-13. The Wolves successfully recovered the ensuing onside kick and scored 90 seconds later when Chase Green broke free for a 37-yard run and score. With 35 seconds left in the game and leading by two possessions, Lakers ran a hook-and-ladder play, followed by a 37-yard pass to Lucas Wehner with two seconds remaining. The two-point conversion was successful, as well, pushing their lead and final score to Lakers 44, Sandusky 20.

Buchholz brought in five passes for 111 yards and two scores, while Carriveau finished with 76 yards on just two catches, one for a touchdown and Wehner brought in three passes for 69 yards and two receiving touchdowns. He also kicked a 38-yard field goal, his second of the season.

Mlynarski, who stepped in as quarterback in the second half, finished with 11 completions on 15 attempts for 75 yards and one interception. Betts went 6-14 with two interceptions for 39 yards.

With the victory, the Lakers improve to 6-0 and 3-0 in divisional play. Just one game remaining in divisional play for the BTC-White, Lakers hosts the defending Division 07 state champion Millington Cardinals next week to win the title outright. Sandusky falls to 2-4 on the season, losing back-to-back games for the first time this year.
