Red Hawks Take Advantage of Turnovers and Third Downs to Down the Wolves

September 26, 2025 — Week 05 — Sandusky, Michigan

Cass City carried their momentum through two weeks, taking out Millington last week in overtime and then Sandusky, 47-7 on Friday, September 26, 2025. The Red Hawks never trailed and found the end zone seven different times, controlling all phases of the game against the Wolves.

Cass City converted 13 of their 14 third downs and gained 22 first downs on a night that the Red Hawks rushed for 391 yards and six touchdowns. A fumble recovery by Gavin Franzel resulted in a scoop and score for another Red Hawk touchdown on a night that Cass City’s defense limited Sandusky’s offensive production to just 163 total yards and one touchdown. The Wolves had the early momentum when Cass City fumbled the ball at the Sandusky 31-yard line, but Sandusky couldn’t gain a first down and had to punt the ball away. That kickstarted four straight drives ending in touchdowns - three from Cass City and one for Sandusky to make it 21-7 at halftime. Ryker Wallace punched in the first score of the night with a two-yard run, followed by two Jackson Anthony’s rumbles-in from three yards out. Sandusky’s lone score of the night was a 15-yard connection from Jack Betts to Nathaniel Tovar and an extra point from German foreign-exchange student, Robert Ladiges.

Sandusky’s first drive of the second half showed promise for the Wolves but ended at the Cass City 10-yard line, which the Red Hawks turned into points two minutes later, Ryker' Wallace’s second score of the night, to make it 27-7 Cass City. The Wolves then fumbled on the very next play which was recovered by Gavin Franzel for a touchdown, blowing open the game by 28 points in just a span of 13 seconds, 35-7. The next drive stuttered for Sandusky, unable to convert it on fourth down, which set up another Cass City touchdown, Franzel’s second of the night, but first on offense to make it 41-7. The ensuing kickoff was recovered by Cass City, allowing a majority of the second-string and junior varsity players to get in on the action. Kaden Kruse capped off the Red Hawk scoring with a run from the one-yard line.

Cass City’s Will Perry led the Red Hawks with 115 yards on 13 carries, but it was Wallace who was named the Ameriprise Financial Player of the Game with 16 carries for 96 yards and two scores. Sophomore Red Hawk Preston Dorland attempted three passes on the night, all falling incomplete. Sandusky’s rushing attack was led by quarterback Betts’ 68 yards on 14 carries with one fumble. He completed five of his 10 passes for 60 yards and the only Wolves touchdown to Tovar. Aiden Navarro brought in two passes for Sandusky for 66 yards.

For the first time this season, Cass City is now above .500 with two straight road wins and a 3-2 overall record. They remain one game behind Lakers in the BTC-White standings, tied with Millington. Sandusky falls to 2-4 on the season and begins a three-game road trip against Lakers, Caro and USA.
