Deckerville 33, Brown City 20
Brandon Salowitz Has a Career Night, Surges Deckerville Past Brown City on Homecoming
September 19, 2025 — Week 04 — Deckerville, Michigan
The most anticipated 8-player football game in the state of Michigan was expected to come down to the bitter end, but the Deckerville Eagles had other plans, having never trailed and defeated the Brown City Green Devils, 33-20 on Friday, September 19, 2025.
Brandon Salowitz over doubled his season production in a single game, scoring all five touchdowns for Deckerville and rushed for 326 yards on 39 carries for four touchdowns on the ground. He added a 26-yard catch from Ian Flanagan for another score on a career night for the junior running back. Deckerville took the opening drive 82 yards in 10 plays and took 6:48 off the clock to set the tone for the game and would score on three of their first four drives. Brown City’s night showed glimpses of their capability with Lawson Cooper breaking free for an 80-yard run, a Jayce Halbert 77-yard kickoff return and a 59-yard pass from Cooper to Carden Hagey, all for touchdowns, but the Green Devils went 0-5 on fourth downs and gave Deckerville all the momentum they needed for the victory.
The Eagles led at the end of the first quarter 13-0 after Salowitz’s 16 and 55-yard touchdown runs. Brown City’s ensuing drives would result in turnovers-on-downs both in Deckerville territory. After the Eagles’ third drive stalled and couldn’t convert on fourth down, the Green Devils would get on the board on the very next play with Cooper breaking free for an 80-yard scamper for the score. Deckerville responded with a methodical drive covering 55 yards on 4:43 on nine plays, capped off with Salowitz’s third score of the night, a two-yard dive into the endzone to make it 20-6 just 22 seconds before halftime. Brown City again responded well and again, on the very next play - a 77-yard kickoff return from Jayce Halbert to make it an eight-point game at halftime, 20-12.
Trying to continue their momentum into the third quarter, Brown City’s half would start with a quick turnover-on-downs after moving the ball just four yards on their first drive and giving Deckerville the ball at the Green Devil 43-yard line. Salowitz would bring in a pass from Flanagan for Deckerville from 26 yards out to push the lead back to 15, 27-12 after Mark Donker’s third extra point of the night. Brown City’s next drive resulted in yet another turnover-on-downs after nine plays, which Deckerville again turned into points, Salowitz’s fifth and final score of the night, a 27-yard run into the endzone. After another Brown City turnover-on-downs and a Deckerville fumble, the Green Devils connected for their third score of the night, a 59-yard pass from Cooper to Hagey. The two-point conversion was good to make the final tally of the night, Deckerville 33, Brown City 20.
Deckerville is now 4-0 on the season and tied with Kingston at 3-0 in divisional Big Thumb - Blue play. Brown City has lost just two games in the last two seasons, both coming against Deckerville.
